Here’s yet more proof that Fender have not always been stuck in a rut “another Strat, another Tele” as Leo Fender himself once said. This very modern-looking sculpted lucite-bodied Fender guitar actually dates back to , but it is a one-off creation by Roger Rossmeisl who as well as designing for Rickenbacker was the man who brought us the Fender Coronado, Starcaster, and the much more popular Telecaster Thinline. Note that this prototype borrows the Starcaster neck as evidenced by its distinctive headstock. Note also how the body has been sculpted and features two through-body holes either side of the bridge; anyone who has ever picked up a luctite-bodied guitar should know how heavy they can be, so it looks like the sculpting and body holes were all part of a weight-reducing effort – which would suggest that the guitar was conceived to be lucite-bodied should have gone to the production, and not that merely the prototype was made that way. For your consideration is this vintage Fender prototype electric guitar. This one-of-a-kind creation was hand-designed by Roger Rossmeisl himself, who is well-regarded as a former Rickenbacker designer, and also father of the Fender:

· It was made in Eindhoven Holland. Egmond produced large quantities of guitars with models from cheap to quite good, for that time. The serial number does not date the guitar, you have to look for other clues, as
In addition, large “divebomb” tremolos played on clean guitars were a large part of many Surf guitarists’ technique. In the s many shoegaze , noise rock and post rock bands such as My Bloody Valentine , Sonic Youth and Slint began playing on tailed bridge guitars for their special possibilities. Tailed bridge guitars have a primitive third bridge mechanism in their floating bridge with limited timbre when used in an extended technique.
When the strings are strummed behind the bridge, a unique chiming sound is created that has come to be associated with Sonic Youth. In some ways these sounds are reminiscent of the sounds of a musical box , because of their often high pitches. Even when strumming in front of the bridge, the long string length behind the bridge coupled with the low break angle over the bridge functions as a “sink” for vibrational energy, producing sympathetic resonance which can function as a counterpoint when power chords are played on different string pairs.
This distance causes a tone of two octaves and a major third higher than the open string, similar to the fifth harmonic. For Mauro Pawlowski of dEUS he made an alternate version with an additional pick up in the tail to explore the possibilities of creating third bridge sounds. This pick up has a separate output.
What we get here is twelve songs and fifty-nine minutes worth of energetic, emotional and passionate music from this Dutch group. She is in fine voice throughout and really delivers a strong vocal performance. Sander Gommans provides death grunts on many of the songs.

Four decades of guitars from Czechoslovakia. When I wrote my original article about Eastern European guitars [Guitars of the Cold War, Vintage Guitar Magazine, January ], I was still in the process of researching the roots of these instruments. In the first two installments, I had focused on Russia almost exclusively, though I did mention Jolana guitars briefly.
Since then, a lot of new information has come to light, enough to dedicate this third installment of “Guitars Of The Cold War” exclusively to guitars built in Czechoslovakia.
The only markings or branding he says are on the guitar are the sticker inside, it looks like it says “Egmond; made in Holland.” A quick google search led me to find out there are quite a few “vintage” egmond acoustics from the 60s and 70s being sold on eBay and ://
I have a Egmond archtop acoustic that was my very first 6 string. And yes, the serial is in the back of the stock, in between the machine heads, mine is: I came across a web site with the History of the Egmond factory and family. Very good here it it for anybody interested. If anybody has them or even knows how can I get them I also will buy an old and wrecked one so I can use it for parts.
Best regards for all I have a ’60s Egmond electric, kind of a fake-leather-covered Jazzmaster copy. Bought it relatively cheap about 6 years ago, and love it. Everything I’ve read about these has commented on their supposed lack of quality, but I have to say mine’s not bad at all. Nothing like a real Fender Jazzmaster, other than the shape, but not bad. The wiring could’ve been better, I guess. The vibrato tailpiece is actually probably the best of any guitar I’ve ever owned, actually.
Despite looking like a Jazzmaster, it’s actually semihollow, and sounds more Gretschy to me than anything else

Publius I am not anti-Collins. I like the band’s material without Gabriel just as much as I enjoy the Gabriel era. But this, my friends, is a disaster. The musicianship, while not outstanding, is absolutely fine. Why the hell are the drums right at the front of the mix? Guitar is seldom audible, and Phil’s vocals sound distant and indistinct. Let’s run through this track by track. There is actually nothing wrong with this track, it is mixed quite well and is possibly superior to the studio recording.
A very very good start The Carpet Crawl ers?

I am not human though, nor even, in the minds of a lot of humans, am I alive at all. I am a little over twenty feet in length, and about four feet across the middle. I am made from tropical hardwood, and am older than any human being has so far managed to live, unless of course you include Methuselah in your list. I have spent time in the company of both good and bad people, and been treated kindly and deplorably. It is no great achievement of mine that I am still here, rather it has been either the kindness of others or their desire to exploit me for money.
I got NO idea. Something someone could use to build a semi-hollow body guitar. I found a pick guard that seems to go with it. Black On Nov at To be clear for those of you who are novice: It is a generic unbranded unknown vintage
Instrument Appraisals While Fret Not does not offer written appraisals I do have some pointers for those who are trying to find out what their instrument is worth. A little directed research on the internet may help to yield a good picture of an instruments value. If you need a written appraisal for insurance or replacement purposes I highly recommend contacting a reputable instrument dealer for an appraisal. My first recommendation would be to go straight to the source, George Gruhn of Gruhn Guitars.
He is the author of several vintage guitar guides and is a vintage instrument dealer in Nashville TN. Instrument value will be based not only on the model and year of an instrument but also it’s condition.

Vintage Guitar Magazine – this is Vintage Guitar and all neophytes are advised to start here. Of course, my favorite part is Michael Wright’s “Different Strummer” column, which covers the history of all those wild, wacky off-brand instruments in elaborate detail. VG has also published several of my own articles over the years, some of which can be found on this site.

General Isana Dating Information: Month and Year of manufacture is ink-stamped quite small! It is usually very faded and faint, and hard to locate and read – try using a very bright torch! Since the known production date of the ‘Elvis’ model spans 5 years OKT MAI , it seems a reasonable guess that a maximum of of this model may have been built, perhaps less than one fifth examples in black. Only a very few examples I know of seven including Elvis’ have surfaced in Black finish. None are yet known to me in Blonde or Natural finish.
However, there are also many other similar guitars that display Isana-like features, but which bear no branding, or a variety of other names, such as ‘Oscha’, ‘S und S’ – It was common practise for a distributor or even the original seller’s shop to add their own perfectly professional-looking decal labels to guitars in these days, so the situation is by no means clear cut.
Here, I will focus on known Isana-branded archtop models Years as ‘stated’ may refer to a model produced for several years either side of that date!
